About Words of Healing
I had someone send me an e-mail asking me if I believed words have special power (presumably due to the name of this website). So, just to be clear, I do NOT think that certain words are in any way magical. However, I do believe that words have the power to hurt others or to heal others. Calling someone an idiot can certainly hurt them, and paying someone a compliment can encourage them. We use words to process our thoughts, we use words to communicate our feelings. Words are an integral part of the very fabric of what makes us who we are. It is logical to believe that words which lead us to a correct belief about ourselves and the world around us can bring us healing.
Interestingly, there is only one book in the world that claims to be the ‘Word of God’ (the Bible). There is only one person in history who has made more of an impact than anyone else: Jesus. The Bible calls Jesus ‘The Word’ (John 1:1,14). God has used words to communicate to us, and more importantly He used The Word to communicate with us. Through the person of Jesus Christ God has revealed His nature–His very heart–so that we might see who He really is. He is not some tyrannical ruler, or an aloof Creator. He is, rather, a God who would sacrifice Himself in order to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10).
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” – Jesus (Matt 24:35).
